A design project which resulted in a new wayfinding concept for the city of Turku. The wayfinding pylon prototypes were tested in the city center in the summer 2019. The maps are made to fit the needs of different users and significant landmarks are illustrated in 3D to help users identify the environment.
The project included multiple workshops and user studies before creating the final prototypes. Muotohiomo has developed an operating model for managing the wayfinding system and designed the visual identity and structure of the signage. The wayfinding concept endorses safety, makes the city more approachable and encourages active travel by foot.
